REACH Review 2017

Public consultation: 28/10/16 - 28/01/17

In the last decade REACH has been giving a lot of headaches both to the authorities and the industry. Being a new concept for the entire European chemicals legislation, its first steps were clumsy. Although implementation corrections were constantly made, it is now for the first time that legal corrections are aimed at.

According to REACH Artile 117(4), the European Commission reports on the implementation of the Regulation every five years. It collects information from the EEA states, ECHA and all interested stakeholders. As a result, proposals for legislative corrections can be initiated. The next report is due in 2017.

A three months public consultation has been opened by the European Commission. Interested stakeholders can submit their suggestions until 28 January 2017. Position papers e.g. by industry associations can be uploaded. Particular problems that are not addressed in studies contracted or planned by the European Commission should be now tackled e.g. SVHC in articles.
